What is an abscess?

An abscess is defined as a localized collection of pus that typically forms as a result of an infection. Similarly, a benign tumor refers to a noncancerous growth that does not involve the accumulation of pus, and a viral disease pertains to ailments caused by viruses, which is distinct from the nature of an abscess rooted in bacterial activity and pus formation. Thus, the most accurate and comprehensive definition is that an abscess is specifically a collection of pus.
